Ground water control in civil engineering becomes a necessity whenever the foundation level lies below the average ground water level, or when the particular hydro geological conditions require draining measures in order to prevent break-ups of pits bottoms.

By sinking several wells at appropriate distances from each other, the lowering of ground water level is achieved, as the drainage funnels overlap.
